So much to see and do ...

Where to begin?

The Castle is situated in the beautiful Towy Valley, on the Western fringes of the outstanding Brecon Beacons National Park (there are 520 square miles of it). It's the ideal base for those who wish participate in the many outdoor, sporting and venture activities the area has to offer.

Well known as an area for Welsh mystic culture steeped in a rich history, Llandovery is surrounded by three rivers, the Towy, the Bran, and the Gwydderig. Today it’s a buzzing market town that still has a strong medieval feel.

With the beautiful Carmarthen and Pembrokeshire coastlines nearby and the Brecon Beacons National Park next door, there are an unlimited number of places to explore.

Each item of interest has a link to that particular resource.

Immerse yourself in the local heritage, take a breath of our freshest air. Sightseeing, fishing, walking, mountain-biking, cycling or just take things easy

Llandovery is a perfect location from which to explore the Brecon Beacons, Towy Valley, and surrounding areas. Maybe a leisurely stroll, white water rafting or even imbibing with a little local whiskey or gin tasting -  it’s all within easy reach of this historic town.

The town itself is well worth a look, the Town Museum & Visitor Gateway is situated directly opposite the Hotel offering fascinating insights into the history of this Drovers Town.

We have antique shops, a butcher by Royal Appointment, a proper hardware store! a wonderful Post Office owned & run by the local garden centre & several interesting gift shops.

The Castle itself looms over the car park with the unusual and striking representation of Owain Glyndwr below. The grisly story of his execution in the town makes for fascinating, if slightly disturbing, reading:

Within walking distance there is Myddfai Village & you will pass Llwynywermod, Welsh Residence of HRH The Prince of Wales en route the village hall offers a café, information & activities here you will discover the legend of the Lady of the Lake & the Physicians of Myddfai.

The River Towy offers excellent trout fishing & permits can be purchased at the hotel reception, we also have a key to the golf course (complimentary to hotel residents) & the tennis courts (at £1 per player).

Fancy something a little more “Hi Octane” … Crychan Forest (at Halfway) offers walking, cycling & horseriding trails as well as QuadBiking,, Trail Riding & 4 x 4 adventures ! contact local guide: Chris Morse on 07771 880947.

We like to party in Llandovery and there are a series of events throughout the year. Carnival on Whit Sunday, Motorbike Weekend in June & the now legendary Sheep Festival in October.

The hotel itself plays host to the Lazzmatazz Music & Literature Festival & we have our own musical initiative, Llandslide set up & run by local musicians to create and promote a local music scene. The Llandslide Festival takes place on August Bank Holiday with Open Mic events on the last Sunday of every month as well as other events throughout the year.

Should you manage to exhaust what is on the doorstep then there is plenty more to do & see easy within range, Aberglasney Gardens is a splendid day out, The Dan-yr-Ogof Show Caves are quite wonderful & the Penderyn Whiskey Distillery is delightful, to name but a very few.

West Wales is your oyster, The Brecon Beacons your playground, and it’s only just over an hour to Cardiff !!!
& Best Yet !!! When you return to the hotel exhausted, we have comfy sofas, a cosy bar & wonderful hearty food to greet you … & if you wish your dog(s) !
